In NY. Sprayed at night when we had a dip in temps to the mid 70s. SpeedZone had no affect.

  1. I don’t think speed zone kills crabgrass. Xlr8, tenacity if you plan on seeding, or a crabgrass specific formula from a big box store.

  2. Outside-Pie-7262

Looks like it’s working to me. You can see discoloration on the leaves. Hit them again

  3. “Weed”

    *crabgrass*

    Speed zone doesn’t kill crabgrass.

  4. Speedzone does not kill crabgrass. It is rated to broadleaf weeds.

    Use quinclorac or similar herbicides.

Ah, thanks everyone. TIL I have a crabgrass infestation. I’ve always mixed with Tenacity in the past to keep the yard clean. Skipped tenacity because it bleaches the hell out of nutsedge for weeks, but doesn’t kill it. The browning on the other blades is from sedgehammer, which was mixed in with speedzone.

OP if you’re looking for an all in one Q4 Plus is solid and has quinclorac as one of it’s ai’s

  7. Speed zone kills broadleaf weeds

    That’s a grassy weed

  8. ItzBenjiey

Buy something with Quinclorac. Sedgehammer for the nutsedge. Speed zone for all broadleaf weeds. I personally use Tzone but I have speedzone on my future purchases when I run out of Tzone.

I only use tenacity when seeding. It really doesn’t work great for anything else I’ve found. There are better pre-emergents than mesotrione, you just can’t seed with them.

  9. Use a grampas weeder to get the smaller clumps of crabgrass and overseed like hell in September

  10. Think_Candy8974

DRIVE XLR by BASF. 60 bucks a half gallon. IT will kill all the crabgrass. 90% in first application.

  11. Electronic-Visual-30

Crabgrass prevention is your better bet.

  12. Ra1nDownZion

RM18 will literally kill any weed you got in your yard. Theres stronger shit out there (RM43) if you want to see dirt instead of weeds. I use 18 and just double the rec amount to mix. Extra potent. Extra dead weeds.

  13. HugzMonster

Want my dog to pee on them? His pee kills all life.

Man, people really need to read up on stuff. I bought a 4 acre property that was neglected and overgrown before I moved in. Took me a couple years to start tackling and before I began investing in herbicide options, I did a fair bit of research to understand what would best accomplish my goals.

Randomly buying chemicals to spray the wrong type of plants and I’m betting are the same people that won’t wear long sleeves and pants and spray on a windy day and then go back inside to prepare a snack.

Maybe I’ve had a few beers and this is rude, but it’s baffling to me the ignorance of people regarding many things. We have so much knowledge and information at our literal fingertips.

    Sorry for ranting in advance

  15. Apprehensive-Ad264

    Weed killer for weeds.
Specific grass killer for specific grasses. In this case, crabgrass.

  16. The ratio of upvotes to comments means it’s crabgrass.

  17. TakingTheEast

SpeedZone doesn’t work on crabgrass, why don’t you try reading before buying

  18. twoaspensimages

When the grassy weeds start taking over in late summer it’s time for Quinclorac.

Speedzone is great but it’s better suited for spring / early summer weeds.

  19. DrRavioliMD

That’s cause speed zone isn’t for that.

  20. FoundationPhysical85

If you’re trying to kill weeds in the cracks of cement (like in the last photo), use a tool like this:

    https://a.co/d/2QX38xM

I just purchased this one from Amazon and it’s great.

  21. greysplash

    Triad QC Select

It’s basically Speedzone with Quinclorac, which is specifically for crabgrass.

From what I could find, it’s the cheapest option with the highest concentration

  22. Beavis2210

Triclopyr and 2-4-d, a tablespoon of each and a few gallons of water in a sprayer will fuck that shit up in a day if the temp is high enough. I just neutered an entire row of that sumbitch.

  23. I’ll probably get downvoted for this, but just do what the gif shows you. BARE HANDS and try to grab the crab and pull it out 😎

  24. TripleOhMango

I don’t mess around with chemicals for crab grass. Get a good grip with both hands and pull back and forth until you force it out of the ground, roots and all. It will leave a crater in your yard, so have some soil and grass seed handy to fill it in. It won’t be back.

  25. At this point in the season I just a weed puller on crabgrass to get it out before it goes to seed. Then we’ll preemergent again next year.

  26. lospotatoes

Folks. OP said they’re in NY, where consumers cannot buy quinclorac.

  27. scamp9121

Roundup crabgrass destroyer 2 (2nd gen with topramezone) works fantastic on these. Price is a steal as well on Amazon. Don’t get gen 1. It’s gotta say 2.

  28. Critical-Living9125

Lawncare professional here. Never had much luck with Speed Zone. For crabgrass, Quinchlorac or Tenacity

  29. amica_hostis

    Lol

These goddamn things are indestructible man. After a nuclear blast burns the entire Earth you can bet your balls that If you’re unlucky enough to survive the blast you’ll be seeing weeds growing within a couple days.

I bought one of those weed torches because everybody’s like yeah get one of those weed torches they work so good! All it did was turn all the weeds brown for about 2 or 3 weeks and then they came back even stronger and even greener.

I got pissed off and just went and bought a bottle of concentrated Roundup and made it double strong. I sprayed those bastards twice. They’re still out there right now coming back again green. And we haven’t had rain for like a month. It’s mind boggling.

  30. I’m pretty new to lawn care but in my case Quinclorac products take care of 90% of my weeds. If any survive after a few weeks, I hit it again but with 2,4-d. If it’s STILL standing strong, thats when I go down the rabbit hole and find what I need (such as recently getting sedgehammer for nutsedge).

I do plan on picking up some mesotrione on amazon (generic tenacity), but only to lay it down when I overseed this fall as a pre emergent.

No need to pick up expensive weed killers when cheap stuff can kill it all just as easy
